In July 2019 IGLFA had the pleasure of welcoming 8 womens teams to Rome ranging from seasoned veterans such as Paris Arc En Ciel (France), down to tournament newcomers Jumping Potatoes (Switzerland), and the 2 Irish sides (Occasionally United and The Dolly Mixtures). With temperatures at approaching 35C at kick off on day 1 it was set to be a long 3 days tournament, full of grit and determination. I don’t think any of us were expecting the real camaraderie that would result from the tournament which culminated in one of the new comers being crowned IGLFA European Champions.
On behalf of IGLFA I want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to our one main volunteer at the event – Mark; to UEFA, FIFA and Pendle Sportswear for their generous donations of sports kit to IGLFA; to all of the referees, who contributed hugely to the amazing atmosphere which we all created; to Eurogames Rome for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this amazing event; and mostly – thanks to each and every one of the players, who really made the event what it was. Not only were our champions crowned in Rome – there were a number of other awards too – and we couldn’t complete this round up without mentioning the golden boot winner, scoring an incredible 10 goals, Gabriele Fiedler (Die Gaynialen) and golden glove winner – throughout the entire tournament conceding only 5 goals, All in Team OS.
We hope to see you all again, before too long, for an even bigger and better tournament. Please keep an eye on www.iglfa.org and the official IGLFA social media channels for all the latest tournament news. Huge congratulations to all winners but it is only right that we wind up this report by saying that the EuroGames Gold Medalists, and new IGLFA European Champions, are Jumping Potatoes!!
